The bowl is supplied with a thin layer of non-toxic petroleum jelly as the barrier layer. Smart design ensures the barrier layer is located in such a way to resist contamination, sun/wind exposure, and contact by you or your pet. If the layer is compromised in any way, reapplication is easy.

Simply wipe clean the old barrier material with a paper towel or cloth and reapply a new layer of fresh petroleum jelly using a cotton swab. You can even add a few drops of an essential oil such as clove or peppermint which have also been shown to deter ants. Read more here!
